Commentary Submission Form

Do you want us to list your name as an author beside your comments?

If yes, what name should we use in publication?

See Q&A below for the kind of comments we’re looking for.

Commentary Q&A

What kind of comments are you looking for?
We want clear, accurate, helpful advice and explanation and instruction.
If there’s a Code comment that you think could be improved, or a Rule that we haven’t got commentary for yet, then just write your views as you would talk to a friend about them. Be conversational. Outline what the problem or issue is, why you think it’s a problem, and what can be done about it on the jobsite. If a Rule lacks a decent explanation or is unclear -that would be great info to share. If there are other Rules in play, mention those too.
You know your stuff. Share it as you know it.
Can I submit drawings with my comments?
Yes. Please input your comments in the form above, noting that you’ll also email a drawing with your comments. Then email the drawing to [email protected]
Why can’t I submit comments anonymously?
We need your real name on file to contact you about your commentary, to ask questions or to ask your views on any editing of your comments.
Can I use a fake name for attribution?
Sure, if you want to. Within reason and as long as we’re not falsely attributing to a real person, we’ll use whatever name you want us to. We’ll attribute to Chairman Mao if you wanted it.
If it’s a false attribution for humorous purposes, the name needs to be obviously false. If the name looks like a real person somewhere, we might have to contact you for more info before publishing.
One more thing; the electrical trade is a great place to work, it’s crammed with awesome people. Using your real name is bragging rights with these awesome people. Just a thought.
Do I own the rights to what I submit?
Nope. It’s like Wikipedia, people contribute for the common good.
Will I be paid for my comments?
Sorry, no. If it soothes any, our Editors don’t get paid much either.
If PS Knight owns anything I submit, then aren’t you just profiting off my commentary?
My dear friend, people don’t get rich by publishing electrical books. If you knew what we go through trying to get one of these books to market, oh, if you knew...
Will CSA be mad at me?
Probably, but they get mad at everyone. You’re in good company.
Will I be liable for my comments?
No. PS Knight assumes all liability for published commentary.
Will you use my comments?
Well, that depends on what your comments are. If they’re good stuff, we’ll use them.
If we receive several comments on the same Rule, arguing basically the same thing, then we’ll either use the best explanation submitted or we’ll craft a combined comment and attribute to several contributors.
Also, and obviously, we won’t publish false information or anything terribly dated or no longer relevant in the field.
We might edit your comments if they’re off-topic, wordy or sweary, or if they’re ranting, threatening or bigoted or something like that.
What happens to my comments when I submit them?
Submissions go to our Chief Technical Editor, usually once per month. Each comment is reviewed and edited if needed. If we use your commentary, you’ll be advised by email before the next edition of Commercial & Industrial is published.
